We Audited OUTRANKgeo's AI Visibility — Here's What We Found

We built OUTRANKgeo to help brands track and improve their visibility in AI-generated answers. The obvious question: do we show up in those answers ourselves?

We ran the tool on ourselves. This is our Week 0 baseline — the honest starting point before any GEO optimization work. Most of the results are 0%. That was expected. Here's what we found, why it matters, and what we're doing about it.

The 8 Queries We're Tracking

We selected eight queries that represent how a potential customer would discover a tool like ours — discovery queries, category queries, and comparison queries. These are the exact search intents we want to own.

These queries range from high-intent buying queries (#1, #4) to category education queries (#3) to competitive comparison queries (#6, #7). Together they cover the full funnel of how someone finds a GEO monitoring tool.

Week 0 Results: The Honest Baseline

We ran all 8 queries across four AI models: ChatGPT (GPT-4o), Claude (Sonnet), Perplexity, and Gemini. For each, we recorded whether OUTRANKgeo was mentioned in the response.

Note: Perplexity and Gemini results were gathered through manual testing. OUTRANKgeo currently monitors ChatGPT and Claude.

Why 0% Is the Right Place to Start

If we had launched this audit and found strong AI visibility, it would have raised a different question: how do we know what's driving it, and how do we maintain it? Starting from zero is actually cleaner. Every gain we make from here is attributable to specific work.

The GEO category is new. Most of the tools in it launched in 2025 or 2026. The AI models haven't processed enough content about this space to confidently recommend specific tools. Peec.ai and LLMrefs — the two competitors we're tracking — show up sporadically. No one has a dominant position yet. This is the window.

Our Plan to Fix It

GEO visibility is earned through content, citations, and entity recognition — not through tricks. Our approach follows four pillars:

  • Content authority: Publish authoritative long-form content on GEO topics — category definitions, how-to guides, comparisons, data studies. AI models learn what tools do from content about them. This blog is part of that strategy.
  • Citation building: Get OUTRANKgeo referenced in roundups, reviews, newsletters, and industry publications. A tool that appears in multiple credible sources is more likely to be included in AI responses.
  • Entity optimization: Ensure OUTRANKgeo is clearly defined as an entity — consistent name, description, and category across our site, structured data, and any reference sources. Ambiguity hurts AI recall.
  • Community presence: Appear in conversations where B2B marketers already discuss GEO and AI search — LinkedIn, Slack communities, subreddits, and forums. Real product mentions in community discussions feed into AI context over time.

None of these are quick wins. GEO visibility compounds over months, not days. That's why we're tracking from Week 0 and publishing the data — so the improvement curve is documented and verifiable.
