ChatGPT brand visibility: how to track if AI recommends your SaaS
Here is a question most B2B SaaS teams cannot answer: if a potential buyer right now asks ChatGPT "what's the best [your category] for [your ICP]", what does the AI say?

Step 2: Run the scans

- Whether your brand is mentioned
- What position it appears in (first recommendation, second, buried at the end)
- How it is framed (category leader, budget option, niche alternative, not recommended for this use case)
- Which competitors are mentioned and in what position
- Whether any sources are cited — and whether those sources mention your brand accurately
If you are doing this manually, a spreadsheet works fine for a one-time audit. For ongoing tracking, manual execution becomes a maintenance problem — queries need to be re-run regularly because AI responses shift as models are updated and as the underlying sources change.
Step 3: Document what you find
A one-time snapshot is useful. A baseline with a timestamp is more useful. Document your results with the date you ran each scan — this becomes the baseline against which you measure progress.
Pay particular attention to framing. If your brand is mentioned but consistently positioned as "a more affordable alternative" when you compete on features, not price, that is a visibility problem — but it is also a positioning problem. The AI is reflecting what it has learned from existing sources. If those sources consistently frame you as the budget option, the AI will too.
Step 4: Build a tracking cadence
AI model responses are not static. ChatGPT and Claude are updated, their retrieval mechanisms change, and new sources get added to what they draw from. A brand that appears prominently today may drop after a model update if the supporting content landscape shifts.
A monthly tracking cadence is the minimum. For brands actively running a GEO improvement program, weekly scans on key queries provide faster feedback loops. You want to know when something changes — up or down.

A strong AI visibility profile for a B2B SaaS brand looks like this: mentioned in the first 1-2 recommendations for primary category queries, framed in language that matches your actual positioning, visible across both ChatGPT and Claude (not just one model), and consistently mentioned in comparison queries where buyers are shortlisting.
Very few brands hit all four. The typical baseline scan reveals that most brands are visible in one model but not the other, and that framing often drifts from the brand's actual positioning — especially for brands in crowded categories where the AI has a lot of competing signals to draw from.
What to do when results are bad
If you are not mentioned at all, the root cause is almost always a thin citation footprint. AI models build their knowledge of your brand from the sources they have access to. If your brand does not appear consistently in high-authority sources — major publications, industry review sites, relevant communities, analyst coverage — it will not appear in AI responses. The fix is a systematic coverage-building program, not a single press release.
